Do I need a work permit if I own the company?

Yes — even shareholders/directors must have a Thai work permit if performing actual duties in Thailand. Owning shares without working does not require a permit.

Capital + Thai-staff ratio rules?

Standard rule: 2M THB registered capital per foreign work permit + 4 Thai employees per foreigner. BOI-promoted companies are exempt.

Non-B vs LTR work permit?

LTR has 'work permit privilege' built in (no employer ratio needed) — better for senior expats. Non-B is the standard route requiring employer sponsorship.

How long does the full process take?

Non-B abroad: 5-15 days. WP at Thailand MOL: 7 working days after arrival. Total: 2-4 weeks if employer paperwork is ready.

Annual renewal fee?

A licensed Thai Notarial Services Attorney — explained for international clients

Thailand does not have the same Notary Public office that the United States, United Kingdom or Australia uses. Instead, the Lawyers Council of Thailand licenses senior attorneys as Notarial Services Attorneys (NSA). An NSA can certify signatures, true copies, affidavits, sworn statements and translations — and the certification is recognised by foreign embassies, universities, courts and immigration authorities once the document is legalised by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA, Chaengwattana). All client files are stored under the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019). Passport scans, marriage certificates, financial affidavits and corporate records are retained only as required by attorney record-keeping rules and destroyed thereafter.

1. Send your documents — passport scan, supporting paperwork and the receiving country. We reply in English with a written quote within one business hour during Thai office time (Mon-Sat 09:00-18:00 ICT, UTC+7).
2. Translation & review — if Thai ↔ English translation is needed, our translator prepares the certified version and pairs it with the original. You receive a PDF proof to approve before notarisation.

Frequently asked questions from foreigners

Is a Thai Notarial Services Attorney the same as a US Notary Public?: Functionally yes — the NSA performs the same civil-law notarial acts (witnessing signatures, certifying true copies, administering oaths and notarising translations). The legal basis is different: the NSA is a licensed attorney regulated by the Lawyers Council of Thailand, whereas a US Notary is a state- appointed officer. For cross-border use both routes go through MFA / embassy legalisation.
Can you handle documents while I am still overseas?: Yes. We accept scans by email or secure upload, prepare drafts in English, take payment by international bank transfer, Wise, PayPal or credit card, and ship originals back via DHL to any country. Power of attorney work is the most common remote engagement.
Do I need to come to Prachuap Khiri Khan in person?: Only when a wet signature or witnessed identity is required by the destination country (for example a US I-864 affidavit or a UK statutory declaration). For copy certifications, MFA legalisation and most translations we work entirely remotely.
Does Thailand issue Apostilles?: Yes. Thailand acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention in 2024, and MFA Chaengwattana issues Apostilles for documents bound for member states such as the UK, Australia, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands.
